If a post is set to Email Reply all messages will be delivered via email using the anonymous email reply system.
Anonymous Email Relay System – FAQ
1. How does the Anonymous Email Relay System work?
When a user responds to a post, the system automatically generates a unique proxy (temporary) email address. Messages are routed through this proxy, allowing both parties to communicate normally without revealing their real email addresses(unless they consent to).
2. Will this change how users reply to posts?
No. From a user’s perspective, replying to a post works the same way it always has. There are no changes to the post reply email logic or user workflow.
3. Can users still receive replies in their regular inbox?
Yes. Messages are delivered to the user’s Doublelist (DL) email address as usual. The experience of receiving and replying to messages remains unchanged.
4. Are real email addresses visible to either party?
No. Both the sender’s and receiver’s real email addresses are fully hidden. Only system-generated proxy email addresses are visible during communication.
5. Identifying who you are speaking with
Both your username and profile name will appear to the recipient in your email replies, similar to how a social media handle is displayed. Your username was chosen when you created your account, and you can set or update your profile name in your account settings. Usernames cannot be changed however a profile name can be updated once every 30 days.
6. Can I share my email address?
Yes, you may share personal details within your messages. However, always use caution when sharing personal information online.
7. Post reference in replies:
When someone responds to your post, the message will include a reference to the specific ad they replied to. This appears at the beginning of the email chain and helps you identify which post the response is about.
8. Why is this necessary?
Protecting user privacy and preventing harassment, scraping, and blackmail is critical. The Anonymous Email Relay System ensures safer communication while preserving normal user interaction.
Please note that a response sent through doublelist will not show up in your email sent folder. We use our own mail server to send the first message. Once you have established communication with the user the conversation will proceed through your email directly.
